Hello to all friends and supporters of Sisters Village! We are so grateful to share these exciting updates and photos from our June trip. Our Board has been busy with program changes and discernment over the last year, and your participation in our mission makes it all possible.

To summarize:

In September 2024 our health-focused scholarship program began with our friend, Arismendy, who enrolled in advanced physician training for Ultrasound diagnostics. Previously, the health clinic in Playa Chiquita had limited use of this imaging equipment due to inconsistent staffing. This training is more than 500 hours and includes modules for multiple body systems as well as Obstetrics- a vital improvement for the Maternity Clinic!
Many of you joined us on Giving Tuesday last year to hear directly from Arismendy about this educational opportunity in addition to general health updates from Sosua. It was a meaningful time of connection for everyone.
The next chapter of our scholarship story went into effect in February 2025 with tuition support sent for 2 young women living in Jimani, DR, which is near the Haitian border. Kimberly is studying Nutrition/Dietetics, and Avila is majoring in Psychology. This is a virtual university program, providing enormous potential for these bright, goal-oriented undergrads.
Fast forward to June- a group of 4 dedicated/loyal friends were able to serve in multiple locations and connect with each of our on-the-ground partners- New Missions, Three Trees and Go Mad. (scroll down for pictures) It was a pleasure to host our 6th baby shower and the handmade baby items plus diapers and wipes were much appreciated! Our first nutrition workshop was held in Polyclinica; 17 new friends discussed the challenges of healthy eating, and we shared freshly made hummus (with raw veggies!)- great interaction and the hummus was a hit! Another highlight of the trip was lunch with Avila and Kimberly to hear about their college experience so far and their dreams for the future.

We are deeply encouraged by the progress all three of these scholars are making, not only in their academic pursuits but also in their impact on their communities. Arismendy’s hands-on training has already begun to enhance patient care, bringing essential diagnostic capabilities to underserved families. Similarly, Kimberly and Avila’s dedication speaks to the resilience and hope that education brings, especially for young women at the crossroads of opportunity and challenge. Of course, the commitment remains to on-going supply of health clinic needs with each of our partners, and sustainable growth in community public health.
Looking forward, Sisters Village remains steadfast to supporting human potential through education, mentorship, and healthcare initiatives. We are exploring new partnerships and continuing to listen to the needs of those we serve, ensuring our programs remain relevant and responsive. Your continued involvement—whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word—fuels our ability to make a lasting difference.
