Our 2017 trip to the DR was shortly after Hurricane(s) Irma and Maria. The most significant damage occurred in La Piedra, where over 30 homes were completely destroyed. Although Sisters Village was not initially created for disaster response, of course we were eager to address whatever urgent needs we could. Private donations and contribution from Christ the Savior Lutheran Church allowed us to provide clothing, household items and locally purchased groceries for those families still recovering that fall. It was a sobering and also uplifting day, to see the rubble that remained of so many lives….and yet the smiles and gratitude on these faces were incredibly powerful. The need in this village will continue for a while and your support along with prayers are much appreciated.
